Program overview
This practical training course, provided by a professional engineer and lawyer with extensive international experience, explains and illustrates the use of the FIDIC EPC Contract (the “Engineering, Procurement and Construction/Turnkey Contract” or “Silver Book”). The course is designed to help the participants have confidence in working with this document whether representing employers, consultants or contractors.
Throughout the course, participants will be provided with case studies based on real projects and contracts. These will be used as the basis for homework to be completed between sessions. Sharing of best practices among the participants and the trainer will also be organised.
The online course focuses on the 2017 Silver Book, but the sessions also highlight the main differences between this and the earlier edition from 1999.
For those who want to understand and work with the Silver Book, this is a course not to miss!

Course work
The EPC Module programme is comprised of eight sessions, each of approximately 2 hours duration. The course is based on lectures in combination with related casework, between lectures, through which participants will work on real-life cases and practice application of the various contract conditions. Each session begins by discussing the solutions to the casework. The time interval between the training sessions is two weeks, enabling the participants to elaborate and discuss the cases among themselves.
Work assignments may be undertaken at any time; lectures and classroom participation require being available at predetermined hours on specified dates throughout the duration of the programme. All lectures and classroom sessions are recorded and can be reviewed at any time.
Workload
- A session of 2 hours every 2 weeks plus case study work at home between each session, 8 sessions in total.
Platform
The casework will take place on a chat platform (Podio) where the course participants present and discuss a case input in writing. Presentations, assessments and discussions of the submitted replies will take place in an online classroom (Adobe Connect).
Admission criteria
- A Certificate of Successful Completion requires having responded in writing on Podio to all casework and attending at least half of the live classroom sessions.
- A Certificate of Participation requires having participated at least in 50% of all activities.
