Short summary experiences
Bountiful experience in the design and construction of large scale, international infrastructure projects in Europe, Middle East, Sub-Sahara Africa, Asian Subcontinent, Far East. Progressed through the ranks of the profession from assistant engineer to that of senior design engineer, resident engineer, project manager and country manager. Engaged as design engineer for major bridge and highway projects in the UK and overseas. Appointed as resident engineer on infrastructure projects in the UK and supervision engineer on international projects including the post of chief resident engineer on the Malaysia Singapore Second Crossing. The major portion of professional experience was gained through appointments with Freeman Fox International which through various mergers eventually became Hyder Consulting. Hands-on engineering was augmented by managerial experience of consultancy offices in Eastern Europe and the Middle East. The accumulation of construction contract preparation and administration eventually led to operating as a private consult giving support to clients for contract preparation, tendering, award, administration and dispute resolution through appointment as an International Engineering and Management Consultant. Administration of contracts inevitably generated a significant degree of claim processing and hopeful resolution.
Experience in contract claim processing and dispute resolution commenced from the mid-1970s in the UK while working on highway construction contracts. The accumulation of claims experience continued to run parallel with the general course of professional appointments. Formal training in construction law commenced in the mid-1980s with a course undertaken through the college of Estate Management. Associate membership of the CIArb was gained in 1986, which led to further training courses. Studies were eventually undertaken for an LLM in Construction Law and Arbitration, the successful conclusion of which brought fellowship of the CIArb.
