Short summary experiences

I have over 40 years of post-graduate experience, most of which involved dams and hydropower, tunnels and underground works, and large diameter water pipelines and pumpstations. I have particular experience in construction management, contract law, claims adjudication and large-scale engineering projects in the water sector.During my career as a consulting engineer I was intimately involved in some of southern Africa's most prestigious projects, playing leading roles on the Berg River Dam, Thune Dam in Botswana, the VRESAP pipeline and the Durban Harbour Tunnel. On the Lesotho Highlands Water Project, I was the FIDIC Engineer for the 32 km long Mohale Tunnel, and the Matsoku Weir and Tunnel of Phase 1B. Before that I was the Deputy Project Manager (and later Project Manager and FIDIC Engineer) for the design and construction supervision of the 185m high Katse Dam and the 45km long Transfer Tunnel.I left my consulting engineering practice in early 2016 and became a full time Dispute Board Practitioner, Adjudicator, Arbitrator and Mediator. I have received appointments on over 60 separate appointments, which include appointments to standing DBs, ad hoc DBs, Sole Member DBs, or as Adjudicator, Mediator or Arbitrator. They also include Projects financed by the World Bank, African Development Bank, and the Millennium Challenge Corporation. Overall I must have adjudicated about 200 disputes. As a DB member I have been involved with dams and hydropower, major bridges, power stations, tunnels and underground works, pipelines and pumpstations, roads, structures, mining projects as wellas civil, mechanical and electrical engineering projects. I am presently the President-Elect of hte Dipsute Resolution Board Foundation (DRBF) and was the the recipient of the DRBF 2019 Al Mathews Award for dispute board excellence.
