Engineer, senior contracts advisor and current chair of the FIDIC contracts committee Vincent Leloup has this week been awarded the prestigious Louis Prangey Award, the highest recognition for outstanding service to FIDIC and the global consulting engineering industry.
The Prangey Award, the highest recognition for dedicated service to FIDIC, was named after the founding FIDIC president, Louis Prangey and was established to be presented to a person who has rendered significant service to FIDIC and/or to the profession of independent consulting engineering and who exemplifies the objectives of FIDIC.
The recipient is considered to be a role model for the consulting engineering industry and is endorsed by both the FIDIC board and the past presidents council, in accordance with the FIDIC statutes and bylaws.
Vincent Leloup has played an absolutely key role in the development of FIDIC’s contracts and has led the FIDIC contracts committee with enthusiasm and distinction. As well as being the current chair of the committee, Leloup is a senior contract advisor with more than 20 years of international experience in the construction and engineering industry.
Presenting the award during FIDIC's annual Global Infrastructure Awards gala dinner event in Geneva on 10 September 2024, FIDIC president Catherine Karakatsanis said: “Vincent’s work in the arena of FIDIC’s contracts – and indeed the wider contracts and legal sector in the industry – has been pivotal in establishing the reputation of the FIDIC contracts across the global construction and infrastructure sector. His influential role in the development of FIDIC’s contract suite and also the organisation’s work in supporting the promotion of the contracts, has been crucial over many years. He has led this area of FIDIC’s work with professionalism, care, diligence, humour and an enthusiastic and meticulous approach that has inspired others to play key roles in this crucial area too.”
Leloup has also conducted numerous FIDIC training events and has been a regular and enthusiastic contributor to FIDIC contract users’ conferences and other legal and contractual events around the world. “It is no exaggeration to say that without Vincent’s input, FIDIC contracts would not occupy the influential position in the global industry that they do today,” Karakatsanis said.
As he received the award, Vincent Leloup was typically modest, paying tribute to all those who have worked alongside him in the FIDIC contracts space and thanking the FIDIC board and past presidents for their support and trust. “This is a very unexpected honour that I am proud to accept and I am really grateful that I have been chosen by FIDIC to receive such a prestigious accolade,” Leloup said.
